Emily Wells is one of my favorite artists to stumble across in 2009. I first heard her hanging out with Jana, Jen, and Nick at the Hotel Cafe Tour stop in San Francisco. Before the show started, I was most excited to hear Rachael Yamagata. As great as it was to finally hear her in person, that night Emily stole the show for me. Hearing this child violin prodigy live as she melds her classical training with hip-hop style, has the magic of a polaroid developing. Go see her when you can.
